Texting Acronyms Parents Should Know
The Technology Wellness Center encourages parents to review their children’s texts to ensure that their children are being safe and appropriate. But children communicate using so many acronyms that it makes it difficult to know the content of their children’s texts. So below you will find a little cheat sheet of certain acronyms that might be of concern to parents and will assist them with deciphering those texts. These acronyms deal with sexual talk, drug talk, and suicidal or bullying talk. If you find these types of texts on your children’s device, we strongly encourage you to start a conversation about the content of the text and the texting acronyms. Don’t be judgmental, just open to listening.
PAL, PAW, PIR, POS, CD9 – These are all related to parents. Parents …are listening, …are watching, …in room, ….over shoulder, …and are nearby (CD9). You can substitute M for mom or D/F for dad/father as well.
KPC – Keeping parents clueless
LMIRL – Let’s meet in real life
CU46 – See you for sex. Sex is also sometimes spelled out S35
LH6 – Lets have sex
TDTM – Talk dirty to me
S2R – Send to receive (think pictures here)
WTTP – Want to trade pictures
GNOC – Get naked on camera
NIFOC – Nude in front of camera
SugarPIK – Suggestive or erotic picture
GYPO – Get your pants off
DOC – Drug of choice
BROKEN – Hungover
KMS – Kill myself
KYS – Kill yourself
